In 2018, Lansing youth football experienced the end of a historic inner-city league that shaped generations of athletes. At the center of the transition that followed was Coach Josh Starks, a Lansing Everett High School alumnus and dedicated mentor who helped lead the Lansing Cowboys through some of the most challenging years in program history. From league restructuring and the global pandemic to equipment shortages and community adversity, Coach Starks’ leadership preserved opportunity, structure, and hope for young athletes. His championship success, community partnerships with the Lansing School District and Lansing Parks and Recreation, and continued service as a mentor and board member solidify his legacy as one of Lansing’s true unsung heroes in youth sports.
